Started in South Africa in 2008 and linked to the excitement created by major soccer events taking place in this country “A Chance to Play” has now grown into an initiative which also involves organisations in neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.

These organisations decided work co-operatively together in a play coalition called “A Chance to Play Southern Africa” in order to:

  • Promote play opportunities for children the Southern Africa region
  • Involve government departments, other civil society organisations and the wider public in identifying play spaces and play opportunities


Key areas of work:

  • Provision of play opportunities
  • Dissemination of information regarding play and play opportunities
  • Advocating for play opportunities and appropriate budgeting on government level
  • Support for other organisations providing play opportunities
  • Provision of training and training material
