Oosterland Youth Centre
The Oosterland Youth Centre is a children's home in Despatch, Nelson Mandela Metropole. The centre is a refuge for 120 abused, orphaned or abandoned children. Most of the children have been placed in the care of the Oosterland centre by the children's court. In the centre they receive intensive support, attend school and are able to lead an almost normal life. Within the 'A Chance to Play' initiative, Oosterland will run projects in Despatch and Uitenhage with greater numbers of children. It reaches out to communities and schools in the surrounding area where there are no facilities for sport, leisure or playing.
